Ok... I know, I know... I'm laughing in a slightly giddy and embarrassing manner. Trust me, if anyone was in my position during this video they'd be doing the SAME thing. I had the extremely good fortune to have a member of the Corvette Club from Rochester to offer me a shot gun seat in his C6 Corvette as he did 3 laps at the Glen today. The first lap we did (that you will see in this video) was "only" about 90 mph on a straight. But the second and third laps were over 100 mph. Which might not sound like a lot for a race track but HOLY CRAP it was amazing! I've done over 150mph on a straight on the Autobahn in a Porsche 911 but THIS was fantastic, over 100 on the uphill turn at the Glen was... well... a real "holy crap" moment!

We did 3 laps and this was the first, and slowest, of the laps I had the good fortune to do in a dream Vette. Wow, a yellow Vette at the Glen, does it get better than that?

Revival legendary Corvette

While enthusiasts worldwide it is individual or small batches revive retroprojects, «retro cars» do not disappear anywhere, that should please. One of such projects is born presently in company Super Glass Works bowels.

The car which is prepared by experts of the given company, is very similar to the well-known conceptual car of 1954 Chevrolet Nomad (other name Waldorf Nomad). It was piece experiment General Motors. Engineers of concern simply took and "have crossed" sports car Corvette and Chevy Nomad. Super Glass Works revives the legendary conceptual car in the form of project Superior 54 Sport Wagon which they will build small batches on the basis of Corvette C6. More precisely, the given sports car can be received in the form of the designer.

The buyer gets a tubular skeleton, stretcher Art Morrison with a forward and back suspension bracket from С5 and directly body. Further each customer at own discretion paints the car, equips an interior and selects the engine. According to experts Super Glass Works, their project perfectly "digests" V8 engines of manufacture Chevrolet.

The price of ready project Superior 54 Sport Wagon makes 125 thousand dollars. Similar versatile persons Corvette 25 pieces will be constructed only.

New SCX Corvette C6R

SCX will release this Corvette C6R in February. The car was driven by Andy Pilgrim and Ron Fellows.

Corvette committed to GT1... or maybe GT2

Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan is quick to reconfirm Corvette Racing's GT1 program in the first half of the 2009 American Le Mans Series.

"The primary focus of the race team is the 12 Hours of Sebring, Long Beach and, of course as it always has been, the 24 Hours of Le Mans," Fehan said. "We tested the GT1 car at Sebring in November. And we will be utilizing Sebring and Long Beach to put the final touches on the Le Mans effort. We're continuously developing the car and package for fuel mileage, efficiency and new materials from our various suppliers. We want our last GT1 appearance at Le Mans to be successful. The team understands the importance of a victory at Sebring, Long Beach and Le Mans to close the GT1 program."

The highly anticipated GT2 Corvette is still scheduled to debut at Mid-Ohio in early August, Fehan added.

"Engineering and fabrication continues to focus on the GT2 program," he said. "We expect the first actual race car to be completed in early February and will be testing that car in the spring."

Carrera Corvette C6.R-review

Carrera has recently released a new livery of the Corvette C6.R. Recent releases of the iconic Corvette have been pretty much the yellow American LeMans series car, this time Carrera has chosen to release a LeMans Series livery from 2006.

Carrera has really done a good job reproducing the car's complicated livery design.


The running gear on this car as well as the chassis design remain the same from the first releases of the Corvette. The same pair of magnets are in place under the car.
As we look inside however we find the new E500 motor... a "new" motor which still hasn't been confirmed by Carrera. By that I mean it doesn't appear anywhere on the website nor has it been addressed on any message board as being a new motor. Recently Slot Car News has tested the motor and found it to be identical in rpm to the "old" E200.
On the track the car is very fast. With a 50 lap testing run I got a lap time of 2.4 seconds around my Carrera testing track. Which is a time that surpasses a Scalextric Trans Am Jaguar that I've used as a benchmark (with a 2.6 fastest lap time).

The car feels very nailed down with the magnets in the stock positions and the stock tires in place. It's very easy to push the 'Vette very fast, very quickly. It doesn't take long at all, maybe 5 laps, to get the hang of the handling of the car. Basically there aren't any negative surprises when you push the car. It feels quite balanced and easy to drive... recommended for the hobbyist as well as the newbie...

New SCX GT set

SCX is announcing a new GT set which include a Corvette and an Aston Martin.

SCX Corvette C6.R

SCX has made quite a car here. The Corvette C6.R a car that you can throw around the track with every confidence that you can recover just before the guide comes out of the slot. This car is ready to race....out of the box whether it's on plastic or wood, it's ready to go.

This car is all about the details. From little C6.R printing just behind the front wheels...

...to the drivers names above the windows and the tiny printing of the flags and LeMans logo's. The closer you look the more there is to see.

The chassis is glossy black with the standard magnet position.

Inside the chassis...


While the RX-42 isn't the fastest turning motor out there it is put to good use in this car. The motor pod is the 2 post tilting type pod.
Inside the body...
One thing I did notice while racing this car was that the lights, which are incredibly bright, shine through the body in the back end. Not surprising given the power of the lights.

One of the most distinctive features of the C6.R is detailed well on this model too, the vents in the front fenders.

As I said in the recent reviews of the Tuner Car 2 and the BMW 320 WTCC cars, these tires stick well to the track. On my wood track they're great, and on a brief visit to Spider Veloce's house I did some laps on his Scalextric track, the same result, great stick'um. I did notice something about the tires that I'd not seen on other brands. SCX seems to clear coat the sidewalls of the tires to make them shiny. The coating must also protect the printing of the Michelan on the sidewalls too...but I could be wrong.


The latest Corvette C6.R is certainly a car that's worth buying. With it's motor pod design this car has lots of potential to be raced seriously and for Vette fans it's another must have.

In a few days I'll post a side-by-side between the SCX and Carrera Corvette's to complete this review.
