Crash tests - big versus small

These videos are making the auto industry nervous. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted a test that pitted some car companies smallest cars against versus the smallest offering in an offset crash. It’s the Smart ForTwo vs Mercedes C-Class, Honda Fit vs. Honda Accord, and Toyota Yaris vs. Toyota Camry.

The ForTwo is shown above and the Fit and the Yaris videos are after the jump. While the small ones have some pretty horrific damage, each of the small cars featured earned the IIHS’s top score of “good” in most of its other testing. The manufactures say that the test is not reflecting real-world conditions.
